West Ottawa Soccer Club Granted Women's League 1 Team
The West Ottawa Soccer Club (WOSC) is proud to announce that it has been granted a women’s team in League1 Ontario the only pro-am, standards-based, senior league in the Province. It serves as a stepping-stone between the youth, amateur ranks and full-on professional sides. Sanctioned by the Ontario Soccer Association, the league’s focus, first and foremost, is the development of Canada’s future stars.
WOSC President Brian Mason commented, “The West Ottawa Soccer Club is very excited to be granted a team in League1. This is another example of how the club continues to grow and show leadership in the soccer community. I have no doubt that we will field a competitive team given the talented players in this region.”
This Semi-Professional opportunity fills a void for top female players in the Eastern Ontario region. The league has an abundance of talent including Women’s National Team, Provincial and Collegiate level players which should make each game a challenge and an opportunity for our new squad.
WOSC Technical Director Kristina Kiss and Head Coach went on to say, “From a technical standpoint this will address a gap in the pathway for female soccer players in the region. There are plenty of talented players out there looking for the next level of competition and I look forward to working with them.” She also pointed out that our players will not be asked to pay any fees to play.
We fully expect this team will attract top quality players locally and maybe even some from abroad. The opportunity will better prepare our players who have Collegiate, National and/or Professional aspirations. The rest of the coaching staff will include Kwame Telemaque; National B license and former pro player as well as Goalkeeper Coach Andrei Badescu; formerly with the Montreal Impact and various European clubs.
